Bryan Johnson, ~ Brahambryanjohnson@braham.k12.mn.us
Bryan Johnson is currently the Band Director at Braham Area School where he has taught for the past 8 years. His teaching responsibilities include some K-7 classroom music, 5-12 bands, lessons, jazz and pep bands, and the school Musical. Prior to working in Braham, he worked for two years in the Verndale school district.
Bryan received his Music Education degree with a minor in Jazz Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 2001. He also received his Master's degree from Saint Mary's University (Winona, MN) in 2010 His primary instrument is trombone.
Bryan currently resides in Mora, MN.
Nolan Hauta ~ University of MN--Duluth
A native of Cook, Minnesota, Nolan Hauta attended the University of Minnesota-Morris where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music and earned teaching licenses in Instrumental and Vocal music. While in Morris he was very active in the bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, orchestra and many small instrumental and vocal ensembles
Nolan is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Music Department at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is in a full-time two-year program working towards his Masters in Music Education.
Mr. Hauta previously taught 5th grade band, 6th grade band, junior high band and senior high band in Ely, Minnesota. His duties also included lessons, a very active pep band and summer marching band. While in Ely he began an extracurricular jazz band and also had forty students accepted into various honor bands throughout Minnesota for two consecutive years. He helped bring many musicians and guest clinicians into the school.
Prior to teaching in Ely, Mr. Hauta taught in Roseau, Minnesota where he began several innovations; Band Camp, the use of SmartMusic, taking students to honor bands, taking students to UND Band Day and taking students on a Minnesota tour. He also brought numerous special guests into the school and was active in the local arts community; including MBDA.
In addition to being active in MBDA, Mr. Hauta also conducted the Ely City Band. He played trumpet and/or trombone in the Largemouth Brass quintet and trombone in the Ely Community Musical, the Virginia City Band, the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra, The Directors and The Little Big Band. He is an active member of the Arrowhead Concert Association, the Northern Lakes Arts Association, MBDA, MENC, MMEA and NAfME.

Honor Band Coordinator/Treasurer
Rick Olson ~ Hinckley-Finlayson High School
Rick Olson is currently the band director in the Hinckley-Finlayson School District. In addition to teaching 5th-12th grade band, Rick directs the marching band, jazz ensemble, and pit orchestra. He also serves on the school's technology committee, where he assisted in the planning of Hinckley-Finlayson's 1:1 iPad initiative.
Rick attended the University of Minnesota, completing his bachelor's degree in Music Education in 2009. While in school, Rick performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Trombone Ensemble. He was also on staff with the Park Center Marching Band in 2008 and 2009. In his free time, Rick enjoys running, reading, and ping pong.
Carvel Kuehn ~ Rush Cityckuehn@rushcity.k12.mn.us
Carvel Kuehn has been the Band Director at Rush City Schools since January of 2010. His teaching responsibilities include 6-12 bands, lessons, jazz and pep bands, and the marching band.
Carvel received his Music Education degree from the University of Minnesota in 2008. During his education he performed with the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Drum Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and the University of Minnesota Marching Band and Pep Bands. He is an still active performer in several community ensembles in the metro area as a Percussionist.
Carvel currently resides in Blaine with his wife Kristina, son Jack, and dog Hobey.
For logistical purposes, this roster contains high school, college, and university institutions. The regional assignment for elementary and middle schools is currently identified by the name of the HIGH SCHOOL that serves your student population.
